Welcome to New Horizons
Frequently asked questions:
What are your Sunday services like?
At New Horizons, we do our best to make sure that everyone feels right at home when they come to church. Service starts at 11:00am, and there is always praise music followed by a message. The format for our services is slightly untraditional and relaxed – the music is led by a worship leader along with a live band, and the pastor’s sermon is pointed at the real challenges we face every day. The Sunday service lasts for about an hour and a half, and we have before and after service to hang out, have coffee, and meet new friends. Our services are also multicultral. Our pastor usually teaches in English with translation into either Ukrainian or Russian, and we sing a mixture of Ukrainian, Russian, and English songs. The people that attend our church are from Ukraine, the United States, Angola, Cameroon, Ghana, and many other places. Don’t worry – you don’t need to speak all of those languages! You should be fine if you speak only Ukrainian or only English, but if you would like a chance to learn another language, our church is a great place to start. We also have an English club (click here for info) every Thursday night for those who would like to improve their English.
What time should I get there?
We recommend getting there at least by 10:45am, so that you have time to say “Hi” to people, get some coffee, and find your seat. We as a church really value fellowship.
What should I wear?
The atmosphere and format of our church is very comfortable, inviting, and informal. You will see people in all different kinds of clothing styles – from t-shirts and blue jeans to suit jackets and dresses.
What about my kids?
We have children’s ministry at every Sunday service at New Horizons. The classroom opens right after the music stops, so please feel free to keep your kids in the main hall with you until then. Children’s ministry lessons usually include a Bible story, games, and a craft. If there is still time at the end before their parents pick them up, the children may play with the toys or watch a Christian cartoon at the end. Please pick up your children as soon as service ends.
How do I get baptized?
If you’re interested in baptism, we would love to talk to you more about it! We believe that baptism is one of the first steps of obedience that a Christian can make toward God, and Jesus set the example when He was baptized by John in the river Jordan. If you would like to be baptized, please come on Sunday and talk to the pastor or one of the other leadership.
How do I become a member?
Membership at New Horizons is very informal. We do have a membership class called “Discovery”. If you are interested in becoming a member of our church, please come on Sunday and talk to the pastor or one of the other leadership.
